The Royal Huntsman team were at Section 8 on the 5th of November for the site's annual Halloween Charity game day!
The day was a massive success, with around 150 players on site! In total the players contributed to raising around £3,500 for Chris's House, a Wishaw-based suicide prevention charity. A massive congratulations to all involved for raising such a sum for such a good cause!
The team attended the day as Cardinal Bennett and his attendant Monks, and committed to the part with gusto for the first two games of the day, spending time blessing the Blue team, beseeching God to guide our BBs to the enemy, and raising the team morale by delivering firebrand speeches about the righteousness of our cause!
It must have worked, because Blue team were on top form! After storming Tree Fort Woods in game 1, the Monks braved enemy fire to approach the Domination Point to give it their blessings and protect it from Yellow's influence, and helped in protecting it from capture for the remainder of the game. In game 2, after a sermon delivered pre-game, the holy group helped Blue to storm Fort B*stard and showed their divine protection by bravely forsaking the safety of any sort of cover, calling on Blue to be bold and to drive the Yellow menace from the field!
It wasn't all just holy shenanigans, however, as from game 3 onwards the robes came off and the team were back in action and in good form.
During the prisoner capture game the team successfully executed a storming offensive up the enemy flank, pushing Yellow back to their spawn, capturing three of the enemy as prisoners, and ending the offensive far beyond the rest of blue's lines, having seized the Boaty base, a mere BB's toss away from Yellow's main respawn position, before withdrawing in good order with our latest prisoner to avoid becoming isolated and overrun ourselves. The team successfully employed Fire & Manoeuvre tactics to overcome multiple attempts by Yellow to check our advance on the way to Boaty, overcoming every effort by suppressive fire and quick flanking attacks.
During the Idol Hunt game the team joined Blue's offensive into Tree Fort Woods, helping push the enemy out of the Kill House. Pushing on to secure Pumping Station, we successfully located the first Idol, which turned out to be the only Idol discovered for the game's duration, and three Skeleton Cards, which were worth a small sum of bonus points. You hid the Idols bit too well, Marshals! The team got a chance to try out some patrolling tactics in order to navigate safely back to Fort B*stard, where we joined the push towards the Idol drop-off point, located between B*stard and Valhalla, the Yellow spawn. The team successfully employed a defensive formation to keep Yellow at bay, with our LMG gunner forming the centre of our defensive effort, with flank protection afforded by our three riflemen and our sniper in the rear taking precision shots at advancing Yellows. It proved a winning combination, preventing multiple Yellow attempts to push us out of the position.
To end the day, we were swapped to Yellow Team in order to improve their odds of winning for the final game of the day: attacking Blue-held defensive positions.
We took to the field against our former allies, spearheading an assault against Fort B*stard, suppressing the windows with one fireteam whilst another rushed the base, quickly overwhelming their outer barricades and establishing fire control over the base interior. From then it was a game of digging out the last few entrenched Blues and flushing out the ghillie snipers hiding in the brush at the Fort's rear.
Blue withdrew to Valhalla to make their final stand. As Yellow's main body launched a frontal assault to pin the Blue defences in place, the team took a strike force into the woods, patrolling deep and out of sight until we drew level with Valhalla, before swinging around and hitting the position in strength from the flank, using the darkness of the forest as cover for our approach. The team quickly seized the ditch separating Valhalla from the woods and steadily turned their flank, enveloping the position on three sides and sweeping it clear of the foe, giving Yellow their first victory of the day!
The game day was excellent, as were the costumes on show. Congratulations to Immortan Joe (left) for taking first prize, and to the Mandalorian (left) and Churchill (centre left) for second and third place! The Cardinal and his Monks won an honourable mention, taking home a site T-shirt each for our efforts. We're proud of the small part we played in raising money for a worthy cause, and the fun we had roleplaying holy men for the first two games made for an amazing start to an excellent day's airsofting!
